Turkey has many brands and stores that the Dutch have never heard of but would appreciate. A good example is Mado restaurant, a restaurant that started making and selling ice cream in 1850. The restaurant developed into a chain and has become a huge franchise with over 250 cafés and restaurants across the globe.
The company name Mado is a combination of the words Maraş, the name of the city where the brand is originated, and dondurma, Turkish for ice cream. Mado’s success comes from a combination of using old techniques, successful management of the factories where the major productions take place and their secret recipe … Their slogan is therefore: “From the past to the future, this ice cream is real!”
After strolling through the city on many nights, I kept finding myself on the terrace of Mado with an order of baklava, sorbet or profiterol. And I was never alone. People from every age come together here and enjoy the delicious desserts and ice creams on Mado’s packed terraces.
Order online too!
The atmosphere in the cafe is fantastic, but if you just don’t want to leave your house, you can also order their ice cream and desserts through the website. If you want to visit a Mado, we recommend the one on the Asian part of Istanbul, in the Kadikoy district. Walk 10 minutes towards the coast to the Moda neighborhood, you will find Mado at the end of the small pier. Your ice cream tastes better while being enjoyed overlooking the sea and the city!
